What is a welding fume filter?
A welding fume filter captures welding fumes and fine particles directly at the source and reliably filters them out of the extracted air. As a result, the welding fume extraction system reduces exposure to hazardous substances and ensures clean air in the workplace.
Why does welding fume extraction
need to be performed?
Welding produces extremely fine particles that can penetrate deep into the respiratory tract. Especially when working with stainless steel, harmful substances such as chromium(VI) and nickel can be released. An effective welding fume extraction system captures these pollutants as close to the source as possible, thereby reducing employee exposure.

The R Series fume filters are designed for the extraction of welding fumes, smoke, and mist in industrial manufacturing. Depending on the process, the system is configured with appropriate collection elements and filter stages. Cleanable cartridge filters ensure reliable operation even under demanding conditions.
For applications involving carcinogenic substances, models equipped with HEPA H14 filters are available. This allows, for example, chromium(VI) and nickel compounds generated during stainless steel welding to be reliably captured.
A variety of sizes, fans, and control options allow for welding fume extraction systems tailored to the specific process. Depending on the model, the purified air can be recirculated or vented to the outside.
For flexible and changing workstations, ABSAUGWERK also offers the SmartX mobile welding fume filter.
How does a fume filter work?
The contaminated air is captured as close as possible to the source and directed to the R Series fume filter. Depending on the model, a pre-separator first removes coarser particles, smoke, and sparks from the air stream. Cleanable cartridge filters then remove the fine dust particles.
For particularly fine or carcinogenic substances, a HEPA H14 filter can also be used. Depending on the system configuration, the cleaned air is then recirculated back into the room or vented outside as exhaust air. The separated dust is collected and can be disposed of using various discharge options.

When extracting flammable dusts and explosive substances, welding fume filters and extraction units must meet specific explosion protection requirements. Depending on the process, material, and risk assessment, the systems are designed accordingly and equipped with suitable ATEX-compliant components.
ABSAUGWERK takes explosion protection into account right from the design phase of the extraction unit. This applies, for example, to applications where the processing of aluminum or other materials can create an explosive atmosphere.
