After a stormy start and two difficult days at the high camp at 5,500 m, a weather window finally opened on Friday, December 13 – the summit was within reach! \ud83c\udfd4\ufe0f The Aconcagua, affectionately referred to by Marc as the “nasty pile of rubble”, is really tough. In addition to the extreme physical and mental challenge, dryness and thin air, it often storms here with wind speeds of over 100 km\/h. <\/p>\n
With its impressive 6,962 meters of altitude, the “Mountain of Death” is one of the Seven Summits and is the highest peak outside of Asia. After a three-hour climb, the group reached a cave formation at 6,700 m – the planned location for the second weather check. Although the wind had picked up, the weather remained stable enough to tackle the final 300-metre stage to the summit. <\/p>\n
After a 10-hour battle against the cold, wind and mountain air, Marc finally stood on the summit! “For the first 10 minutes, I was so overwhelmed with emotion to have finally achieved this goal on my second attempt.” Because in 2016, Marc had to give up his dream of reaching the summit due to poor weather conditions. <\/p>\n
How Marc achieved his goal 8 years later through perseverance and discipline is a huge inspiration to us at WERKER<\/a>. We are impressed by his achievement and are delighted that Marc has landed back in Ulm with all 10 fingers and toes intact. \ud83d\ude4c<\/p>\n
